The Umojah band emerged on the Cruzan (St.Croix United States Virgin Islands) scene, playing to packed houses at clubs, community events and in live concerts. Over the years the band has built a repertoire of original Umojah hits. The current Umojah members are the founding band members and have been writing arranging and performing together for the entire life of the band.
A popular and dynamic feature of the Virgin Islands community, Umojah has been featured as opening acts for many performing artists over the years including: Beenie Man, Bunny Wailer, Burning Spear, Dennis Brown, Ziggy Marley & the Melody Makers, Gregory Issacs, Lisa Lisa & the Cult Jam, Marcia Griffiths, Shaggy, Third World and others.
Umojah has released two albums to date, "Sounds of the Innocent" and "Bless Already". Also Umojah is putting finishing touches on their new album which should be released in the very near future. So we can all look forward to a lot more Roots Reggae music from Umojah.
The band members are emotionally mature men, who have a wide range of experiences from which to draw. Additionally this band is versatile and skilled at providing lead vocals, backup, bass, keyboard, guitar, drums, and percussions. This initial project is in part, a tribute to Umojah fans in St. Croix, who has been supporting the band as they repeatedly performed to packed houses.
